Hamilton suffers headache from COTA bumps

Some have a knack for math, Lewis Hamilton to that of piloting. As proof, he can win a 6th world title this Sunday which would establish him a little further in the legend of his sport.

However, there were other bumps that occupied the conversation on this opening day of the United States Grand Prix: those which dot the Circuit of the Americas and seem to have gained in volume and intensity over the last 12 months.

« After the first session I didn't feel good at all, confided Hamilton. This is the bumpiest track I have ever ridden on. I had one of those headaches. So that people understand the situation: when we say that the circuit is bumpy, it is not necessarily a criticism. On certain tracks, these roughnesses add a certain character. I'm not a fan of smooth or resurfaced trails.

But here we are on another level. And since we have our buttocks more or less on the ground, your spine absorbs the compressions. I had to go and lie down after FP1 because I wasn't feeling well. We made some changes to the settings and I felt better in FP2.

Everyone is in the same boat. Afterwards, on the on-board cameras, I have the impression that the Ferrari negotiate these portions like a joke. I don't know if their ride height is higher or if they have softer suspension. We will find a solution. Maybe I'll put a cushion in the cockpit for racing (laughs).”

Come on Lewis, a Doliprane and it should be fine. In the evening, Mario Isola, Pirelli manager, explained that the worsening of the bumps apparently came from movements of the ground under the tarmac at the Circuit of the Americas over the past year.

Meanwhile, the uneven playing field didn't stop Hamilton from being the boss of the field heading into qualifying day.
