Hamilton wins Chinese GP

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won the Chinese Grand Prix by dominating the race without ever having been really worried by the competition. The Briton signs his 5th success in Shanghai and the 54th victory of his career. After a contested start to the race on a wet track, the drivers quickly put on slicks and were able to compete in dry conditions.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) took 2nd place and now shares the lead in the Championship with Lewis Hamilton. The four-time world champion reached the finish without being able to threaten the leader of the event. The podium is completed by Max Verstappen who gained 13 places in the race. The Dutchman took advantage of a good strategy and a good start to win ahead of his teammate Daniel Ricciardo at the cost of a great duel in the final laps with the Australian.

Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) completes the top five ahead Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) who had to move up from 12th place after spinning under safety car conditions. The race was interrupted in the first laps by the crash of Antonio Giovinazzi (Sauber), who had already made a mistake in qualifying, who once again destroyed his C36 on the pit straight.

The top ten is completed by Carlos Sainz Jr. (Toro Rosso), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and the Force India of Sergio Pérez and Esteban Ocon. Romain Grosjean (Haas) failed to reach the points by beating the Renault de Nico Hulkenberg and Jolyon Palmer. Felipe Massa (Williams) and Marcus Ericsson (Sauber) completed the ranking.

The McLaren have given up. Stoffel Vandoorne was called back to the garage following a fuel problem, while Fernando Alonso dismounted due to a broken driveshaft while playing in 7th place. Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) also suffered a mechanical problem. Lance stroll (Williams) was unable to complete the first lap after being hit by Sergio Pérez.

Mercedes now leads the Constructors' Championship, one point ahead of Scuderia Ferrari. Red Bull follows with 29 units from the star team.
