Hamilton resists chaos at Monza

McLaren signs its third victory in a row with a third success this season for Lewis Hamilton who won on the Monza circuit after starting from pole. The 2008 world champion was one of the few to experience a calm race unlike his competitors who experienced various fortunes. Sergio Perez (Sauber) signs his third podium this season after adopting an effective strategy by starting on hard tires and extending his first stint allowing him to even temporarily take the lead of the race. The Mexican was the fastest at the end of the race with his medium tires and only fell four seconds behind the McLaren driver. Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) completes the podium and performs well in the Championship since he now has a 37-point lead over the winner of the Italian GP, the Asturian's new direct rival.

Red Bull will indeed leave the Monza paddock with great disappointment. Sebastian Vettel occupied sixth place and came back on Kimi Räikkönen (Lotus) before retiring with a mechanical problem. A few laps later, it was Mark Webber's turn to come into the pits in slow motion. The RB8 drivers were not the only ones to suffer from their mechanics since Jenson Button also retired after a failure on his MP4-27 while the Briton was well on his way to giving McLaren the double.

His multiple retirements changed the first ten places in the race. Felipe Massa (Ferrari) fails at the foot of the podium after letting his teammate Fernando Alonso pass. Kimi Räikkönen (Lotus) completes the top five with difficulty and is only one unit behind Lewis Hamilton in the Championship. The Finn resisted Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) who took sixth and seventh places respectively despite their two pit stops. The winner of the Chinese Grand Prix finishes with the fastest lap in the race. Paul di Resta (Force India) ranks eighth ahead Kamui Kobayashi (Sauber) and Bruno Senna (Williams). For his first Grand Prix with Lotus, Jérôme d'Ambrosio took 13th place behind Daniel Ricciardo (Toro Rosso) and ahead of Heikki Kovalaien and Vitaly Petrov (Caterham). Charles Pic (Marussia) once again finished ahead of his teammate Timo Glock, taking 16th position. Jean-Éric Vergne (Toro Rosso) retired early in the race following an exit at the first chicane after suddenly spinning.
