Hamilton rediscovers the taste of victory

Fernando Alonso knew, getting a victory this season was going to be difficult. To explain his best end to the season in 2008, the Spaniard spoke of a favorable combination of circumstances. This time, it was an unfavorable combination of circumstances which condemned the pilot Renault.

However, at the start, Fernando Alonso got off to a good start. While the pilots McLaren et Red Bull fight for second place, the Spaniard flies away. Behind, Kimi Räikkönen made a good start (4th), unlike Sebastian Vettel, relegated to sixth position.

Mark Webber (2nd), more loaded than Lewis Hamilton in gasoline, sees the Briton overtaking him, the latter taking advantage of the power gain delivered by his SREC. Little by little the 2008 world champion comes back to his former teammate, who stops after twelve laps. As he leaves, Alonso sees the protective flange on his right front wheel slipping away. Then, it?s the turn of the nut to escape, before the wheel is finally released. The Renault driver returned a second time to replace a tire, then a third time to retire, due to a fuel pump problem.

Hamiton took advantage of the situation to take control of the race and, despite his first stop, the Briton quickly regained his leadership. He is followed by Räikkönen, who took advantage of a mishap from Webber in his pit - the two drivers even almost colliding - to take 2nd place.

After Alonso's problems, it is Vettel who must say goodbye to the points in this Hungarian round. Disturbed by a suspension problem, the Red Bull driver had to retire before halfway.

If the Red Bull cars are not as incisive in Hungary, Mark Webber is still in contention for the podium. He had to deal with Timo Glock, third after 75 minutes of racing, delaying his second pit stop. The German pilot even allows himself the luxury of putting the Ferrari from Räikkönen under pressure, in order to glean second position. The other German in the points, after Vettel's retirement, is Nico Rosberg. Author of a serious race, the pilot Williams is at the foot of the podium, ahead of Heikki Kovalainen and Timo Glock, back in 6th position after his second stop.

The end of the race does not see the positions change. Lewis Hamilton maintains his lead over Kimi Räikkönen and Mark Webber, the only driver from the Red Bull and Brawn teams to appear on the podium. McLaren, with first and fifth place, marks its return to form, while Ferrari is also a new contender for victory. Toyota asserts its solidity by placing its two drivers in the points, while Nico Rosberg takes another fourth place. Jenson Button, seventh, takes only two points and continues to advance slowly, leading the championship. Mark Webber, more consistent than his teammate, can dream of a comeback...
