Hamilton smiles again in Spain

After his setbacks in Shanghai and Sochi in qualifying, the Briton Lewis Hamilton has finally put an end to the bad patch experienced over the past two Grands Prix this year. Yet yesterday, the world champion did not seem to have found the right formula with his Mercedes W07 Hybrid, equipped for this weekend with a modified MGU-H.

Once again ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg in qualifying, the former driver McLaren hit hard in Q2 and especially during his last lap in Q3 to unquestionably secure his 52nd career pole position.

“It’s a great feeling to finally have everything together today, I’m very, very happy, Hamilton said after the session. You always need to find that performance, it reassures you and Nico had been so fast this weekend, sometimes two tenths faster, sometimes more. I could see in my data when I was losing, so I tried to understand and correct that on track. It’s so satisfying to tackle this obstacle and overcome it. »

The Briton hopes this time to be able to fight on equal terms until the end with Rosberg, who has largely dominated the championship in terms of accounting since the start of the season in Australia.

“I haven’t had a proper race with Nico yet this year, so I hope it will start tomorrow. It is very difficult to overtake here, so strategy will be important, as will tire management. »
