Hamilton feels “privileged” to fight against the new generation

A little over ten years ago, he embodied the promising next generation of the F1. Now a six-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton will have faced the tenors of the discipline like Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso or Jenson Button, before a decade marked by the reign of Sebastian Vettel then that of the pilot Mercedes.

But it is now in the shoes of the reference driver that the Briton must deal with the new rising generation, whose headliners are called Max Verstappen et Charles Leclerc. For the old pilot McLaren, this situation is anything but a constraint.

“There are a lot of young people arriving, Hamilton recalled. If you look at the grid in Abu Dhabi, for example, from second to seventh or eighth, they were all super young guys, so I'm really proud to be in that period.

These guys are doing a phenomenal job and I really have the privilege of being in this era where they pilot and I look forward to hopefully experiencing closer battles with them in the future. »

If Max Verstappen added three victories to his collection this year, Charles Leclerc scored his first two career successes at Spa and Monza.
