Hamilton alone in the world in Canada, Vettel struggling

Lewis Hamilton proved untouchable at the Canadian GP. The pilot Mercedes led the 70 laps of the race from start to finish to sign the 56th victory of his career in F1, his 6th in Montreal. Mercedes signs its first double of the season with Valtteri Bottas who is ahead on the podium Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) and takes the lead in the Manufacturers' Championship with an 8-point lead over the Team Ferrari.

Scuderia Ferrari had a difficult race with its two cars. Sebastian Vettel had to make a comeback from the back of the peloton after having to stop in the pits to change the front wing following contact with Max Verstappen (Red Bull) at the start. The Dutchman later retired due to mechanical failure.

The Championship leader took advantage of the internal struggle at Force India to move up to 4th place despite two stops against one for most of his competitors. The German now only has a 12-point lead over Lewis Hamilton.

Sergio Pérez (Force India) completes the top five ahead of his teammate Esteban Ocon. The Mexican refused to respect the instructions asking him to let the Frenchman pass so that he could try his luck, even if it meant surrendering his position later.

Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) finished 8th in front Lance stroll (Williams) who won his first points at home. Romain Grosjean (Haas) completes the top ten ahead Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Marcus Ericsson (Sauber), Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren) and Pascal Wehrlein (Sauber).

Fernando Alonso was very close to giving McLaren its first points of the season, but the double world champion retired due to mechanical failure two laps from the finish while he was in 9th place. Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) also dismounted following a problem.

The start was disrupted by the clash between Carlos Sainz Jr (Toro Rosso) and Felipe Massa (Williams). The Spaniard found himself spinning after closing the door on Romain Grosjean and colliding with the Brazilian. The incident is under investigation by commissioners.
