Hamilton: “Quite a tough day”

Lewis Hamilton obtained his 8th success of the season, the 70th of his career, by winning the Russian GP in Sochi. The result may seem idyllic on paper but Mercedes actually looked gloomy since she chose to convey team instructions by asking Valtteri Bottas to leave the victory to his teammate while the Finn was aiming for his first success of the season.

“It's actually quite a difficult day because Valtteri did a fantastic job all weekend and he was a real gentleman in letting me through, recognized the potential five-time world champion. He is clearly no longer fighting for the title and he had a great weekend for the team. »

“The latter did admirably by beating Ferrari and signing a double. We would be happy to do so in other circumstances. But I can understand how difficult it is for Valtteri today because he deserved to win. But we are trying to win both crowns and today was about team effort. Even if it's not spectacular, I know he will do great things in the next races. »

Lewis Hamilton is 50 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel at 5 Grands Prix at the end of the season.
