Hamilton winner on 3 wheels at Silverstone after a thrilling finish!

The oldest will remember Gilles Villeneuve in his heyday Ferrari rolling on 3 wheels and refusing to give up. While Lewis Hamilton et Valtteri Bottas were heading towards a comfortable double after a new demonstration of strength from the Black Arrows, their Pirelli Hard tires began to show serious signs of weakness.

Mounted on the 14th lap during a perfectly executed double stop under Safety Car regime, the envelopes of the Mercedes simply had no more juice to last until the 52nd and final lap.

It was first Bottas who was the victim of a spectacular delamination and had to scramble back to the pits to make an emergency stop to put on Tendres. Max Verstappen, who had spent the entire race in 3rd position with his Red Bull, imitated him as a precaution.

And then on the very last lap, it was the turn of Hamilton's front left tire to give way under the pressure. The six-time world champion held on until the end and managed to cross the finish line as winner for the 87th time in his career, the 7th at Silverstone, the 3rd of this season.

Verstappen only missed 6 seconds to get back on Hamilton and take control from him. Enough to give Red Bull regrets about the Dutchman's second stop. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) completes the podium after taking off at the end of the race.

Behind, Renault carried out a superb operation with the 4th and 6th places of Daniel Ricciardo et Esteban Ocon. In the fight for places of honor throughout the afternoon, the Australian and the French took advantage of the misfortunes of Carlos Sainz, also hit by a tire problem ahead of the finish. His teammate Mclaren Lando Norris slips between the R.S.20s in 5th place.

Excellent race also from Pierre Gasly at the wheel of theAlpha Tauri. The Frenchman was going to pick up a few points after a pugnacious GP but his harvest grew as his rivals fell in the standings. He finished 7th, ahead of the man who replaced him at Red Bull Racing, Alexander albon.

The Thai, however, has come a long way after hanging on Kevin Magnussen (Haas) on the first lap, then received a 5-second time penalty for the collision. Left with fresh tires at the end of the race, he rose like a plane and reached 8th place.

Lance stroll (Racing Point) and Sebastian Vettel completes the Top 10 of a relatively calm race, apart from the violent exit of Daniil Kvyat in the ultra-fast Maggots-Becketts-Chapel sequence on the 13th lap. The Russian fortunately escaped without injury, unlike his AlphaTauri AT01, which was quite damaged.

However, it was this incident that would lead to the sensational finish we witnessed.

In the Drivers' Championship, Hamilton inflicted a severe 25-0 on Bottas, who finished 11th and out of the points after his tire mishap.
