Revealed by our colleagues from racefans.net, the information has been confirmed to us. Pirelli and Hankook are now in discussions with FOM, holder of the commercial rights to the F1, to be named sole tire supplier to the discipline for the period 2020-2023.
The two manufacturers had to respond to a federal call for tenders which provides, among other things, for the use of 13-inch rims in 2020 before a switch to 18-inch rims from the 2021 season with the aim of making future single-seaters more modern and spectacular.
Sole supplier to F1 since 2011, Pirelli is also involved in Formula 2 and GP3 Series as well as in various GT categories, notably the SRO Motorsports Group branded series such as the Blancpain GT Series or the French Championship FFSAGT.
Hankook has never competed in the premier category of the car but the Seoul firm equips the stables of DTM and the FIA European Championship of Formula 3.
