Hembery: The current model no longer works

Paul Hembery, the director of Pirelli Motorsport, expressed a feeling of frustration during an interview with The Guardian. The spokesperson for the manufacturer of the F1 particularly wants to see the discipline evolve more quickly and even proposes new solutions.

“I thought that qualifying on Friday evening was a good idea because the promoters have something to sell. We could also have a sprint race on Saturday so that the public present sees a podium », suggested Paul Hembery. “It's not our place to say what needs to be changed, but change is necessary. We are waiting to see what is offered in 2017 when we consider a new contract. »

Paul Hembery also complains about the lack of public interest in the pilots. “This sport is very dominated by technology. But I would like to see the pilots have the appearance of kings, stars that people follow... that they become heroes. Viewers want a hero… (Viewers) are happy when they see Lewis Hamilton win a race, but they believe that five other pilots could have done the same with the same Mercedes and that is regrettable. »
