Former glory of Grove, Damon Hill commented on the news of Williams, largely marked in recent days by the officialization of the arrival de Carlos Sainz. At the end of the contract and after analyzing all the possibilities for the rest of his career, the Madrilenian opted for the English team as part of a multi-year lease starting in 2025.

A transfer which raised many questions, with various specialists doubting the choice of the Spaniard who could perhaps have opted for a team playing a little higher in the standings. Regardless, among the English, his arrival is welcomed with open arms. Above all, we are delighted to have managed to attract a big fish where some drivers would perhaps never have dared to venture, Williams having been at the back of the table for many years.

But the project seems to take a completely different turn with the arrival of Carlos Sainz, coupled with the continuity of Alex Albon, linked to the team led by James Vowles until at least 2026. With a more experienced duo, the team from across the Channel can afford to have greater ambitions, particularly as the new technical regulations approach by 2026. One thing is certain, the recruitment of the son of world rally champion is part of this lineage.

« The association with Alex Albon will be dynamic, assures Damon Hill in the columns of the Independent. It is very important to be able to combine two people who will work hand in hand in a team like Williams given the situation the team finds itself in these days. You need these drivers. In my opinion, it's a perfect combination. I see them as mature, competitive and hardworking drivers. I think they will complement each other perfectly.

[Carlos Sainz] has rigor. That's what people feel about him. He is also a hard worker. I know him and his father well, and they are serious people. These are not people who take the Formula 1 for fun. Carlos works hard and is up to it. » Enough to allow Williams to return to center stage?

The English are rather rigorous in nature, even very rigorous, unlike the Latins! Sure that The Smooth Operator has experience at McLaren and Ferrari which can prove very useful to the old Grove team
