Hockenheim: Pirelli hopes for a race as lively as in Shanghai

If Pirelli often opts for a combination of soft, super soft and ultra-soft tires, the manufacturer of the F1 has decided to shake up habits for the German GP contested this weekend by offering the medium rubber with the ultra-soft and the soft.

“Germany offers us something of a leap into the unknown, since no Grand Prix has been organized there since 2016. Many things have however changed on the single-seaters, such as of course the range of tires, but the route of the Hockenheimring remains the same », notes Mario Isola, Pirelli sporting director.

This is not the first time that the Italian tire supplier since Pirelli had chosen these compounds for the Chinese GP which had offered a lively race since most of the drivers had to use all three types of rubber during the race.

“For the second time this season, we have decided to shift our selection by a notch, so that the difference in performance is fair between the different mixtures. This contributed to a good race in China, and had an impact on the strategy. We therefore hope that the same will happen in Germany. The data collected during free practice will be important, because the teams will have to readjust to the circuit and understand the different tires to get the best out of them., adds the Pirelli man.

This choice will also be offered during the following race at the Hungaroring (July 29).
