In his reflections on the resumption of F1, the organizers considered organizing two races at the end of July and beginning of August on the Silverstone circuit. The new health measures adopted by the British government in the fight against the coronavirus have, however, complicated this perspective since everyone entering the territory will have to observe a 14-day quarantine.
The promoters of the Hockenheim circuit quickly reacted by positioning themselves to host the F1 field with races behind closed doors, while the German track had not obtained an agreement for the 2020 season.
“It is true that we are in discussions with F1, admitted Hockenheimring director Jorn Teske to Reuters agency. We talked about the idea of having a race without spectators. We have already looked at whether this was possible, whether in terms of dates or the law. For us, it's an option. »
If the possibility of organizing a trip to Hockenheim will depend on possible exceptions granted to Silverstone, the promoters of the German circuit remain realistic about their chances of returning to the calendar in 2021.
“Until we have financial support from the government, or anyone else, we cannot manage the usual costs. The risk would be far too high”, recognized Jorn Teske.
