Honda is doing everything to “fight for the championship”

Red Bull Racing will she be the main opponent to Mercedes-AMG F1 in 2020? If the Australian Grand Prix could provide some answers this weekend, it is an objective shared by the Austrian team and its Japanese engine manufacturer for 2020.

After a year of “discovery” in 2019, the alliance Red Bull-Honda could offer a new, even more offensive face in 2020, to definitively seal the return to the forefront of the two entities.

« We are doing everything to respond and fight for the championship, proclaims Masashi Yamamoto, Honda F1 manager. We had some unfortunate races last year, where we weren't to our advantage in some of them, but we need to avoid having those kinds of races this year.

Max says he wants to be on the podium at every race, a wish we must support. The structure is really effective and there are a lot of things we learned from our first year at Red Bull, like how to operate most efficiently. »

In terms of number of victories, the Japanese clan does not want to get too far ahead, but believes that the single-seaters powered by its turbo/hybrid V6 should be in a good position for the majority of the 2020 calendar.

“Last year we had 11 podiums, nine for Red Bull and two for Toro Rosso, so I think there are 11 circuits where the Red Bull teams have some sort of advantage, Yamamoto believes.

We need to see how many of those we can win, because those are the ones where we have opportunities. »
