Honda found no problem with Alonso's engine

After good qualifications and perfectly executed team play with Stoffel Vandoorne, Fernando Alonso expected a complicated race at Spa-Francorchamps where the circuit gives pride of place to the engine.

“Obviously, it's not easy to race like that, since you can't survive in wheel-to-wheel duels, explains the Spaniard after the race. The afternoon was difficult because we were not competitive. The car was too slow on the straights and it was impossible to fight, the points were out of reach."

Seventh after a great start, the driver McLaren has demoted in the hierarchy, increasing audible annoyance on the radio. He ended his ordeal a few laps before the safety car entered.

« I had to stop due to an engine problem."

However, Honda did not find any particular problem with the double world champion's engine, fueling the theory of a voluntary retirement.

« After a brilliant start, Fernando had a very difficult race overall, adds Yusuke Hasegawa. He informed us of a problem with the car, even though there was nothing visible on the data, we decided to stop the car as a precaution."
