Hungary EL1: Hamilton ahead of Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton clearly announced that he would not give up after the German Grand Prix, and demonstrated it again this morning in Hungary by dominating the first free practice session at the Hungaroring. The two pilots Mercedes engaged in a real back-and-forth during the first hour of the session before Hamilton set a 1’25”814 that Nico Rosberg was unable to improve on.

Behind the two Silver Arrows, these are the Ferrari F14 T who showed themselves to their advantage with Kimi Räikkönen ahead Fernando Alonso. Sebastian Vettel follows in 5th position ahead Kevin Magnussen (McLaren). Excellent 7th place for Toro Rosso by Jean-Eric Vergne who is ahead of the other Red Bull de Daniel Ricciardo, Jenson Button (McLaren) and the Williams by Felipe Massa. The Grove cars were relatively discreet in these FP1, in the middle of a peloton which complained of a general lack of grip on the Hungarian turnstile.

Among other French people, Romain Grosjean once again experienced a problem with the cooling system on his Lotus E22 and took 17th place, while Jules Bianchi brought up the rear with his Marussia, beaten in the final moments by his teammate Max Chilton. The Briton, however, got off to a bad start to his session, returning to the pits after his first installation lap in a plume of smoke. After the marshals intervened with fire extinguishers, the MR03 was returned to its box for a gearbox change.

The second session will take place from 14 p.m., still to be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr.
