In the hustle and bustle of Abu Dhabi where Mercedes tried to win his case against Red Bull in front of the race direction, Christian Horner was the only leader from both camps to take the time to come back to length on this final round.

Faced with the media, the Red Bull Team Principal obviously did not escape all the questions concerning the various complaints from Mercedes. Placid as usual, the Briton did not wish to linger, thus avoiding getting into any controversy.

« It was obviously a somewhat desperate decision. (from Mercedes), he said straight away. We didn't want it to end up in front of the commissioners. They have been great competitors this year and Lewis has been phenomenal. There were tense moments. It was hard. But we are simply delighted with the result. And very proud of Max.

There was obviously a lot of debate before the race but, as it turned out, it was of course very different after the race. But we don't race with lawyers... It's a shame it ended this way, but the stewards made the right decision. »

Questioned at length on extra-sporting matters, Christian Horner did not forget to mention the athlete, starting with the title of Max Verstappen. " This is the right result, affirmed the manager of the Austrian team. We have to take stock of the 22 races of the championship and Max was exceptional. He was unlucky at times but he always kept his head high. He drove with his heart and passion, with great skill and determination. I think he deserves the title of world champion.

The fact that he came out on top and beat Lewis, who is a formidable opponent, the greatest winner of all time, adds value. Hats off to Lewis for this season, he drove very well and I am delighted with the result."

Christian Horner may be smiling, but the affair launched by Mercedes after the finish is far from being resolved. If the race management rejected the German team's appeal, the latter confirmed its intention to appeal the decision. The 2021 season may not be over.
