Horner: “Testing in Bahrain would be irresponsible”

If Pirelli and Mercedes F1 wish to carry out pre-season tests in Bahrain rather than in Barcelona (Spain) as has been the case for several years in order to benefit from less wintery conditions, the Team Principal of Red Bull Racing Christian Horner expressed his disapproval.

“60% of teams must make savings, but testing in Bahrain will have much higher costs, underlined Christian Horner. It seems financially irresponsible to me to be more than an hour and a half from the factory when we are developing the car, what's more, on a new concept, at a time when temperatures are already rising in Spain. »

“It would be irresponsible to force the teams to go to this session, unless there is compensation in return, which I don't believe, or Mercedes pays for all the transport of the equipment to Bahrain”, quipped Christian Horner.

“We are a team that has the means to go to Bahrain, but it would be better to do these tests in Barcelona”, summarized the director of Red Bull Racing.
