Horner worried about the superiority of Mercedes and Ferrari

Christian Horner fears seeing again Mercedes et Ferrari dominate the F1 in the coming years with their Power Units. Red Bull Racing has often been critical of the lack of performance and reliability of the 6l turbo/hybrid V1.6 of Renault. Max Verstappen has encountered numerous reliability issues this season.

The partnership between the Taureau Rouge and the Losange even almost fell apart until the Milton Keynes team chose to keep the French engines rebadged by Tag Heuer.

“We will never accept not being competitive. We will continue to attack and continue development in order to make up for our lack of horses with the chassis, assured Christian Horner on Sky Sports. But the reality is that we have two manufacturers (Mercedes and Ferrari) who have such a lead and such investments that it is difficult for the others to catch up until 2021.”

While waiting for the future regulation of Power Units (also eagerly awaited by McLaren) comes into force, Christian Horner is concerned about the restrictions on Power Units elements which should be even more restrictive in 2018.

“This engine has not been in any way positive for F1 since it was introduced, underlined the Team Principal of Red Bull Racing on ESPN F1. What worries me the most is that we will only have three engines next year with more races on the program. This is the first issue that should be addressed at the next Strategic Group meeting. I tried to get this changed at a meeting earlier this year, but had no support. »
