Horner offers to sell F1 cars to smaller teams

La F1 is facing the coronavirus crisis as best it can, but its future is subject to many questions while its most modest teams will be seriously affected by the absence of competition. The championship management has already postponed until 2022 the implementation of the new regulation, but other avenues remain to be explored.

During an interview on Sky Sports F1, the Team Principal of Red Bull Racing Christian Horner proposed selling F1 cars to the most modest teams on the grid in order to limit costs.

“I would have no problem in the short term, in a period of between one and two years, to say to the smallest teams: “Drop the research and development costs, you just need to be a team racing and we will sell our car in Abu Dhabi. » This would be the simplest way to be competitive at a lower cost. We could sign with four teams. I think about Haas, Alpha Tauri, Sauber (Alfa Romeo) and probably Racing Point. They try to copy other cars every year anyway. »

“If I were in the shoes of Finn Rausing (the owner of Alfa Romeo Racing) or Gene Haas (the owner of Haas F1 Team) and I had the opportunity to buy a Ferrari, a Red Bull or a Mercedes, I would grab it,” added the Briton.

Christian Horner also stressed that limiting costs had to be achieved by studying pilot salaries. Lewis Hamilton would be the highest paid driver on the board with an annual salary of 40 million pounds (around 46 million euros).
