Horner: Sainz Jr was disloyal

Carlos Sainz Jr has made it known that he plans to leave Toro Rosso at the end of the season. The protégé of Red Bull, which is said to be in particular discussions with Renault Sport F1 Team and McLaren-Honda, raised this prospect in the paddock of the Red Bull Ring which is hosting the Austrian GP this weekend.

“My first goal is to be with Red Bull next year and fight for podiums and victories. I'll continue to aim for that, but if it doesn't work out, it's unlikely I'll have a 4th year at Toro Rosso. I don't close the door to any opportunity. I am clearly ready to take a step forward in my career”, indicated Carlos Sainz Jr.

Christian Horner did not really appreciate Carlos Sainz Jr's comments while Toro Rosso seems to want to keep the same crew in 2018.

“We took an option on Carlos Sainz Jr and he will be at Toro Rosso next year, replied Christian Horner on Sky Sports F1. It doesn't make any sense, I don't know where he thinks he'll be next year. It's a bit unfair to say things like that because he wouldn't be in F1 without Red Bull. Our goal next year is to have the same numbers on the cars. It is 100% certain that both drivers will be with us. »

The transfer game begins in the F1 paddock with in particular uncertainties concerning the future of Fernando Alonso at McLaren-Honda and Jolyon Palmer at Renault.
