Out of the points, Vettel exasperated by Ferrari: his strategy “made no sense”

What's going on with Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) ? The four-time world champion Formula 1 experienced an ordeal during the 70th anniversary Grand Prix on the Silverstone circuit (Great Britain), between a spin at the first corner and finishing in 12th place.

The German driver thus languishes in 13th place in the 2020 championship after five events with 10 poor points, while his teammate Charles Leclerc fights with 4th position and 45 units. The one nicknamed “Baby Schumi” at the start of his career had never had such a start to the campaign since 2008 at Toro Rosso (quadruple retirement and a 17th place)!

Regarding his driving error a few seconds after the lights went out, Sebastian Vettel had few explanations. “I don’t know what happened. I got a good start, then I wanted to stay out of any trouble at the first corner.

In the car, it was as if I had felt contact with another competitor but the impact surely came from the kerb. Losing control of the car was a surprise. I lost a lot of places (last in the first round). However, we will have been able to make a more efficient ascent. »

This is indeed another aspect that irritated the man with 53 victories. A salty radio communication did not fail to surprise viewers: “I find myself in exactly the position I don’t like. We talked about it this morning. I'm going to hang on but you know you messed up! » No one answered him on the pit wall.

In the British paddock, Sebastian Vettel continued his thoughts. “We discussed strategy. There was no point changing tires if you knew you would get out in traffic. However, this is exactly what happened. He explains.

Additionally, I came out with hard tires, which only lasted 10 laps before switching back to mediums for the last 20 laps. It didn't make any sense ! As a result, I no longer had any grip in the tires at the end of the race, even though we had talked about it in the briefing. »

When it was pointed out to him that Charles Leclerc managed to keep his head above water despite poor equipment, Sebastian Vettel kicked in. " It is difficult to compare with Charles on this weekend. In previous races we were both riding in the peloton.

This time he benefited from a clear lead. That's why I got a little angry, we could have avoided being in the pack and I don't know why we didn't do it.

I have no other explanations. It's a bit strange, the gap remained the same over these last two GPs, with some driving or not on my side. »
