HRT wants a 3rd renowned driver

Hispania Racing Team, debutant team in Formula 1, chose to recruit, at the start of the season, two young drivers, Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok. On the contrary, Lotus Racing had decided to hire two experienced drivers, coming from a Formula 1 season, Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli. If Lotus can rely on the experiences of its drivers to develop its car, this is not the case for HRT, whose drivers learn the characteristics of an F1 at the same time as their team.

HRT now seems to regret this choice and wishes to recruit an experienced driver to help develop the car. Rather than replacing a driver who does not lack merit, Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok having suffered the cast since the start of the season, it is a third driver who could arrive.

Senna and Chandhok having brought sponsors with them, Colin Kolles is ready to break the bank to pay for the services of a third man, a “ experienced pilot » as he told Bild, in order to ride on Friday to help develop the Dallara-HRT. The names of Christian Klien or Giancarlo Fisichella have already been put forward in the press.

« We will soon bring in an experienced pilot on Fridays, in order to be able to carry out comparisons », Says Colin Kolles, who does not know what the true potential of his car is due to the youth of his drivers. “ It sounds crazy but I fully intend for us to become the best new team. I brought Geoff Willis with me, he should allow the team to be a real constructor. »

This week, AUTOhebdo relayed the words of Geoff Willis (see elsewhere), which asserted that development should be carried out intensively. With or without Dallara? The choice seems to have been made. “ We are going to rent a wind tunnel, attests Colin Kolles. We will develop the car on our side in order to raise our level and forget that of a GP2. » Which amounts to thanking Dallara for having built the single-seaters but, from now on, HRT is taking things in hand.
