By taking points from Max Verstappen, Lando Norris has reduced the gap between himself and the Dutchman in the championship. The Englishman had reason to regret it, given the weakness of the Red Bull.

In absolute terms, all is well in the best of all possible worlds. Lando Norris signed a new pole position, a third in the last four Grands Prix, and took back 8 points from Max Verstappen, as in Zandvoort a week earlier. The Englishman is now only 62 points behind his rival with eight races to go (eleven with the Austin, Brazil and Qatar Sprints to come), and if he continues to pick up as many points each weekend, it would be enough to clinch a first world title. Presented like that, the postcard of the Lombard trip is enticing. The reality is less rosy. We initially thought that the Englishman had overcome his inability to stay in the lead at the first corner from pole, but the curse simply moved to the first lap. I love McLaren, I love its 2 drivers that I have seen evolve since F3 and I have a special affection for Oscar who, little by little, is replacing Kimi in my heart as a supporter who is not at all objective :) but he is a bit slower than Norris in the race and it was a mistake to attack him at that point in the race. Lando could have taken off and protected himself from Leclerc's strategy. McLaren is no longer used to playing up front and no longer knows the decisions that should go with it. It will come back and all hopes are still allowed. Let us also be wary of conclusions on a circuit that is unlike any other, Red Bull is not dead, far from it
