Without surprise, Renault Sport F1 Team confirmed the arrival of Nico Hulkenberg from 2017 a few hours after the announcement of the German's departure from Force India. The winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans 2015 with Porsche défendra donc une quatrième équipe en F1 après Sauber et Williams.
“I am very happy to join Renault Sport Formula One Team in 2017, commented Nico Hülkenberg, author of 111 Grand Prix starts at the age of 29. Renault has always been a major player in the world of motorsport and brings back incredible memories for me. With Renault, Michael Schumacher not only made Germany an F1 nation, but also ignited my enthusiasm and passion for racing. By being part of the Renault family, I want to develop the car and write new pages of success. »
“It has always been my dream to drive for an official manufacturer. The new F1 regulations will be a game changer and provide an opportunity for our team. In the years to come, Renault will be in a challenger role which corresponds 100% to my approach to racing. I can’t wait to join this family”, added the former GP2 champion.
“We needed an experienced driver, always hungry for podiums, explained Jérôme Stoll, president of Renault Sport Racing. Nico Hülkenberg fulfills this role perfectly and ideally complements what we want to achieve. He is very talented, dedicated and motivated. Nico will allow us to take all the work we have done this season and translate it into better results on track in 2017 and beyond. We can’t wait to see him in our new car in 2017.”
Nico Hülkenberg could evolve with another new driver at Renault Sport F1 Team. Esteban Ocon could join the Losange next year, which would offer the teamenstone to a completely new crew at the expense of Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer.
