Hülkenberg indifferent to the weather at the Brazilian GP

The Force India fell behind in qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Sergio Pérez will start from last place while Nico Hulkenberg had to settle for 12th position while being unable to qualify for the last session. The German nevertheless distinguished himself on the Interlagos circuit, notably signing the only pole of his career with Williams in 2010 and finishing in the points each time (with a best result of fifth place in 2012). “It is true that Brazil was a good meeting for me and I hope that it will be again. I did my best but I was still four tenths from 11th place (Esteban Gutiérrez). »

Like all the competitors, Nico Hülkenberg scans the sky to find out what the weather will be like for the race. “The new track is still slippery. There is still oil leaking from the bitumen and this could become a problem in the event of rain. However, the forecasts point in this direction. The kerbs are a little hard, among the roughest of the season. If the track is new, they have not changed. Some single-seaters don't care but our car is not as durable and we have to be careful not to damage the flat bottom. »

If Force India's performance lags behind that of McLaren which is 24 points ahead of the Indian team in the Manufacturers' Championship, the uncertain weather in Sao Paulo can often redistribute the cards. In addition, the track was very abrasive and Nico Hülkenberg will have the advantage of being able to choose what type of tires he will start with. “The medium tire is more resistant, it must be able to withstand 20 laps. The strategy will obviously depend on the conditions. We leave for three stops, or even one more if it’s as hot as Friday. No matter the weather, you have to make do with it, but having performed well in the rain does not necessarily mean that it will happen again. The season is different, the car is different and the tires are different. »
