Hülkenberg: “Not where we want to be”

On the occasion of the European Grand Prix in Valencia, Nico Hulkenberg scored his best career result by finishing in fifth place. A performance of choice that the German from Force India puts into perspective, however. “Obviously Valencia's fifth place is a great result, He says. But we must take into account the fact that the cars in front of us having abandoned should have preceded us normally. However, we did not make any mistakes, we did things in order to succeed in taking points. It's a boost, and it definitely gives you confidence. Getting a good result is always positive for the whole team”. And again, Hülkenberg thinks he could have finished even higher in the rankings without this Srec problem having affected his VJM-05 from the seventh round.

This weekend at Silverstone, on a circuit that he particularly likes, Nico Hülkenberg will be keen to continue this dynamic. Aiming for fifth place again might seem pretentious. The objective will be to nibble a few additional points. “Our ambition is obviously to finish in the top 10 once again, He continues. I think this circuit is not as favorable to us as Valencia, but we will have new elements on our car as well as possible adjustment variations which we hope will allow us to be strong again”. Because, despite constant performances, the accounting results of the Force India team are ultimately not as encouraging as one might think. In any case, it does not meet the ambitions at the start of the season. “We have to stay humble, continue to evolve the car and do the job. We are 8th in the Constructors' Championship, and that's not where we want to be. Williams and Sauber are ahead of us. Williams by one point, Sauber by a little more (16 pts. Editor’s note). But their performances are solid, so we need to keep pushing”.
