Hülkenberg: Pirelli must do better with rain tires

Nico Hulkenberg would like to see Pirelli continue its development on grooved tires. The pilot Renault attended with his 19 opponents a qualifying suspension of more than 2h30 during qualifying for the Italian GP following a decision by the race management who displayed the red flag following the exit from the track of Romain Grosjean.

“The rain wasn’t very heavy and there wasn’t that much standing water on the track, explained Nico Hülkenberg on Sport1. The problem is that tires are designed to only evacuate a certain number of liters of water. Beyond the limit, aquaplaning can easily occur and this is something pilots do not want. Charlie Whiting (the FIA race director) therefore had limited choices. »

“In the future we should continue to work with Pirellis to improve the situation. In the past, with several other manufacturers, we could easily drive in these conditions, confirmed Nico Hülkenberg. The only problem is that we don't have that many tests during the year and therefore not a lot of driving on wet tracks. So it’s hard to progress for Pirelli. »

Nico Hülkenberg qualified in 12th place at Monza but the Renault driver started from 14th position on the grid due to a penalty. The winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans 2015 arrived at the Italian GP in 13th place.
