Hülkenberg satisfied with his performance for his 2nd express return

Nico Hulkenberg had planned to go to the Nürburgring this Saturday afternoon to serve as a consultant to the German channel RTL for the Eifel GP.

In the morning, the ex-pilot Renault was in Cologne having coffee with a friend when his phone rang with Racing Point CEO Otmar Szafnauer on the other end.

“‘Hülkenberg, take care of yourself, we need you’, he told me », told the luxury substitute after the qualifying session on the microphone of Sky Sports

It was then 11:00 a.m. and Lance stroll had just withdrawn from Free Practice 3 because he didn't feel comfortable.

Since Pérez's positive test at Silverstone, Racing Point is still transporting the 33-year-old's seat in its trucks. You can never be too careful... and the reality on the ground proved them right.

Two months after his most recent outing at the wheel of the RP20 and without the slightest preparation, Hülkenberg did his best on the 4 laps he was able to complete in qualifying.

« The car behaved differently compared to the feeling at Silverstone, reported the person concerned, who finished in 20th and last place but only 4 tenths from Q2. The circuit is not the same either, and the car has received changes.

When you only have 4 turns, it's not easy naturally. In the end, I am happy with my performance. The race will be a colossal challenge, we will try to do our best ».

Sunday morning, in front of his coffee, Hülkenberg will at least have the advantage of knowing that he will be riding in a few hours.
