Hungaroring, an ordeal for Schumacher

With the Hungarian GP marking the end of the first half of the season, all the drivers were keen to shine before starting a well-deserved summer break. It is completely the opposite that happened for Michael Schumacher who had a disastrous weekend in Budapest. After missing qualifying by only taking 17th place (not to mention an accident during free practice), the driver Mercedes caused a second start by missing his position on the grid before cutting his engine. After starting from the pits, the seven-time world champion suffered a puncture and a drive-through before retiring on lap 58.

“It’s a race that I won’t remember for very long”, comments the German whose future of his team and the team itself is uncertain for next season. “The engine temperature was very high before the start and I shut it off when the yellow flag was displayed. I started from the pits and also had a puncture and a penalty. The start of the race was not very pleasant for us. We did not have complete telemetry before the start and during the overheating and that is why we preferred to abandon to avoid any risk that could disturb us during the next race. This weekend is not unforgettable but there are challenges like this and we have to accept it. I am sure we will be much better in the next events. »
