Managed by Flavio Briatore, the Oviedo native made his debut two years earlier within the Team Minardi. If the lack of competitiveness of the Italian single-seaters condemns him to the back of the grid, he nevertheless achieves some brilliant moves which increase his rating. Concerned about preserving his foal, Briatore entrusted him with the role of pilot in 2002.
