An ideal fallback solution in times of pandemic, will the Imola route make a lasting return to the calendar? In any case, this is what the authorities of Emilia-Romagna say, the region where the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino is located Ferrari.

The local government declares that the Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) has received a mandate from Italian Prime Minister Mario Dragui to negotiate an agreement with the group F1 and secure Imola's place on the program until 2025.

Emilia-Romagna promises a commitment of 20 million euros annually distributed as follows: 12 million euros provided by the national government, 5 million euros provided by local authorities, 2 million euros of private investment, and 1 million euros from the ACI.

After hosting the Italian GP in 1980, Imola was the scene of the San Marino Grand Prix from 1981 to 2006.

Abandoned by F1 for around fifteen years, the Italian circuit made a welcomed return in 2020 thanks to Covid-19, which turned the original F1 calendar upside down and forced stakeholders to find fallback solutions.

Organized under the name of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the event was again on the program this season, and now seems destined to extend its lease in the years to come.

“After two experimental editions, Imola aims to once again become a regular meeting of the Formula 1 world championship,” greeted Stefano Bonaccini, the president of Emilia-Romagna.

Contacted by AUTOhebdo, F1 did not wish to officially comment on the announcement made by the region.
