Interlagos would retain the Brazilian GP until 2020

The Interlagos circuit, which traditionally closes the racing season Formula 1 for around ten years now, has it just ensured its sustainability within the world championship? Yes, if we are to believe Fernando Haddad, the mayor of Sao Paulo. After Bernie Ecclestone, the boss of F1, threatened to cancel the Brazilian Grand Prix, the politician sent him a letter to express his goodwill. “I just received a letter from the mayor (from Sao Paulo, Editor’s note) and he guarantees that all the infrastructure will be renovated there, which will be good, because we have waited long enough for that”, explained the money manager of the premier category in Bahrain.

In the Brazilian newspaper Lance, Fernando Haddad now reports advanced discussions. “In May we will conclude the contract and Formula 1 will stay here until 2020”, explains the mayor. “There is nothing left but paperwork. It wasn't a long discussion, but we couldn't commit to something we couldn't do. It's a big job. We require a long-term contract because we will invest nearly $100 million (80 million euros, Editor’s note) and we can't do that without the security of a contract?, he explains, before specifying that 2020 would be a date " reasonable ".
