Interlagos cries twice

Even if the Brazilian Grand Prix does not close the season this year, the Sao Paulo circuit is once again the scene of a world title. And, for the second year in a row, a local driver lost his last illusions of a world title, allowing a Briton to triumph. The men have changed but the emotions remain the same: Jenson Button replaces Lewis Hamilton in the role of the successful pilot and Rubens Barrichello takes over the role of the unfortunate pilot from Felipe Massa.

Rubens Barrichello nevertheless believed in it. His lucky star and his driving skills allowed him to take pole position at Interlagos, while Jenson Button was dropped to 14th position. Unfortunately, the Brazilian was the victim of poor race strategy, ending up in traffic after his first pit stop. At the end of the race, then third, Rubens Barrichello was overtaken by Lewis Hamilton before having to return to the pits due to a puncture. Eighth, the Brawn driver says goodbye to the title of world champion but does not forget to congratulate his teammate, who wins the world crown.

« Jenson won and he deserves it », declares the veteran of the field, who does not forget to point out that he failed close to the goal. “ He won the title in the first six races. The second half of the season was for me. But I'm happy for him, as a friend and a champion. »

However, the Brazilian did not finish his season. With the only point from eighth place, Rubens Barrichello dropped to third place in the drivers' championship. There is no doubt that the Brawn driver will want to seek a place as world vice-champion at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, a place already occupied at the end of the 2002 and 2004 seasons.
