Each driver number has its own symbolism, its own history, its own meaning. For all drivers, the choice of the permanent number – a rule introduced in 2014 and which has been unanimously accepted since – has become a ritual, a highly anticipated obligatory passage. With five new drivers on the grid in 2025, we will see new numbers appear this season, sometimes unpublished, sometimes already used in the past.
This is particularly the case for Isack Hadjar who chose to wear the number 6, a number already worn twice since 2014 by Nico Rosberg (2014-2016) then by Nicholas latifi (2020-2022). No. 6 is available again from 2025 since the Canadian left the Formula 1 for over two years. This is also the first time since the introduction of permanent numbers that the same number has been used by three different drivers.
But then, why the choice of number 6 for Isack Hadjar? The person concerned answered for himself in our columns. "It's very simple. The first kart I was bought had the number 6 on it. I didn't touch it, explained the Racing Bulls driver in issue 2494 of AUTOhebdo. When I could choose my number, I took this one, even in car, during my years in F4 France and FRECA.

Hadjar shares Rosberg's number
The number 6 has a special place in Formula 1: after the number 1 and the number 5, it is the number that has seen the most drivers become world champions. On six occasions (you couldn't make it up), a driver has won the title with the number 6 in the history of the discipline: Mike Hawthorn in 1958 (worn during the 1958 Moroccan Grand Prix, where he won the title), Emerson Fittipaldi in 1972 (worn during the 1972 Italian Grand Prix, where he won the title), Keke Rosberg in 1982, Nelson Piquet in 1987, Kimi Räikkönen in 2007 and Nico Rosberg in 2016.
Nico Rosberg, precisely, is the last driver to have won a title and a Grand Prix with this number 6. He is also the one who deprived Lewis Hamilton, one of Isack Hadjar's idols, from the world title in 2016! "Ah, Nico (Rosberg)... I really like this number... and I think it was worn by a world champion! It's not bad, though.", puts the Francilien into perspective, proud to share this number with the German world champion despite everything. Hoping for the same destiny for him…

Stop dreaming, fellow French car journalists, Hadjar will not be able to make your dreams come true for a few years! The other "little ones" are better than him, for the moment!
