With the announcement of the replacement of Lewis Hamilton by George Russell for the Sakhir Grand Prix this weekend, the world champion being positive for Covid-19, it remained to be seen who would replace the young English talent at Williams.
The Grove stable did not go far, retaining his reserve pilot Jack Aitken, who will thus make his Grand Prix debut. FIA resident F2 this year with Campos Racing (two 3rd places at Silverstone), Aitken took part in free practice 1 of the Styrian Grand Prix in Austria earlier in the year.
“I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to make my debut for Williams this coming weekend and I am extremely happy that George will also get his chance, Aitken points out.
I've felt comfortable since joining Williams earlier this year, so to have the chance to help the team try and pick up points is satisfying. I'll do everything I can to prepare over the next few days, but honestly I feel like I've been ready since Melbourne. »
Jack Aitken will support Nicholas latifi, starter this year at Williams alongside George Russell.
