The 2022 season of Formula 1 has barely ended when eyes are turning with greed to the 2023 campaign. The 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve is salivating in anticipation of witnessing a comeback in great form for Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).

The seven-time world champion finished the 2022 financial year without any victory, unheard of in his 15-year career at the highest level of motorsport. Never before has Lewis Hamilton also appeared beyond the top 5 in the Drivers' standings; In short, this season will not go down in history for the Briton.

Interviewed for Dutch website formula1.nl, Jacques Villeneuve has no doubt about the ability of the record holder for F1 victories to bounce back in 2023. “Next year I expect a lot from Lewis Hamilton, we are going to see the best Lewis there is, writes the Quebecer. He finished the season without a pole position or victory. This will have touched him in my opinion. And then things will start to get interesting because Mercedes has been able to progress. We saw it at the Brazilian Grand Prix. »

The way Lewis Hamilton drove his Mercedes during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix does not reflect all the potential he had in his equipment according to Jacques Villeneuve. “In the first phase of the race, Lewis rightly had to give up his place, and he struggled a bit with the medium tyres. Once he changed to the hard tyres, he was a plane on the track. It's a shame for him that his race ended this way, with the first mechanical failure of the season. »
