Jean Todt: “F1 doesn’t need big changes”

The crisis that the F1 shakes up the paddock. Jean Todt spoke on the subject the day after the tests on the Red Bull Ring (Austria). If the president of the FIA is aware that the discipline must evolve to continue to attract the public, he is worried about the possible upheavals which could result from too hasty a decision.

“To the question of whether F1 can be better, the answer is “yes”. You have to get up every morning asking yourself how to do better”, declared the former Team Principal of the Team Ferrari. « I don't believe we are facing cancer, but rather a migraine and we must find the right remedy to cure it. We don't need big changes, but I'll have to be involved if we do..."

Jean Todt is particularly in favor of a reduction in costs for client teams. “I agree that engines are too expensive. I take responsibility for probably not having ensured a spending limit at this level », added the Frenchman. “Better late than never, but we will take care of this area. I don't really believe in cost control. I won't be against it if we find a solution to make sure they are monitored, but almost no one is in favor of it. »

The FIA president also regrets the multiplication of pessimistic comments on the future of the discipline. “This could discourage fans and financial partners… It would also discourage potential new teams, with the lack of harmony causing them to reconsider the investment”he warned.
