Jenson Button compares his McLaren to an LM P2

Mixed. Jenson Button (McLaren) is blowing hot and cold this Sunday after the Chinese Grand Prix and his fifth final place. On the one hand, the Briton is worried about the pace in the race and the overall lack of speed encountered by his McLaren MP4-28. On the other hand, the 2009 world champion is proud to have been able to carry out a different and very tight strategy with his team in two stops.

To illustrate the lack of performance encountered in the race in Shanghai, Jenson Button took the liberty of speaking to Sky Sports F1 a comparison with the world ofEndurance. “It's really hard because in a way it's like at Le Mans when you're in an LM P2 and you see an LM P1 coming towards you », explains the Briton. “The other cars were so much faster than me that there was no point in defending my position because it would have ruined our strategy. A gap, a pass over the bits of rubber left on the track and the tires would have fallen in performance and our strategy would not have worked, it was a very, very tight strategy?, specifies the Woking pilot.

“It was a complicated race but we should be happy with what we achieved, because we couldn't have done it using the same strategy as everyone else, we're not fast enough”, announces the Englishman, 33 years old. “We will remember the positive, but we know that we are not fast enough and that we must improve”, concludes Jenson Button.
