Jenson Button makes a “massacre”

The term is of course excessive but it is the one used a few weeks ago by Eddie Irvine to describe how Jenson Button was going to be dominated by Lewis Hamilton. Lost, the reigning World Champion took up the challenge.

Jenson Button makes a “massacre”

After four Grands Prix Formula 1 In this 2010 season, it is really much too early to say what will happen to the duel between Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. But, one thing is certain, the Briton was not devoured by his young teammate. Better still, the reigning World Champion won two Grands Prix, took control of the championship, and showed that he was more effective than the protégé of the team Woking. Almost as fast, less nervous, cleaner, less incisive, more decisive.

At the start of the season, personalities from the world of F1 rushed to the gate to declare that the former Brawn GP driver had made the worst decision of his career. “ Jenson entered the lion's den, Eddie Irvine had said. It?s madness to have changed! He thinks he will be able to challenge [Lewis] but that will not be the case. I think he's going to get massacred! It was the worst decision he had to make. The only reason I imagine he did that was because he didn't want to stay at Brawn alongside Rosberg, who isn't as highly rated as Lewis but can be just as fast. Jenson may have thought it was better to be beaten by Lewis than by Nico. »

« It makes my job easier because I'm in a much less stressful position than if it was said that I was going to demolish my teammate., replied Jenson Button. Therefore, I just have to concentrate on the work I have to do, trying to get the best out of myself and the team. In a sense, I don't think [these comments] are a negative element. This is undoubtedly rather positive. It will help me to be in a more relaxed position and to concentrate on the important things. »

Three months after these declarations, we can only see that the Briton has indeed focused on the important things. But, above all, the World Champion shuts up all his detractors. After several difficult seasons, his performances with Brawn GP were accompanied by suspicions about his qualities as a driver. Many observers questioned his real abilities, emphasizing the clear advantage that his car.

« He has been in Formula 1 for a long time and has never come close to winning the championship, commented Tamara Ecclestone, Bernie's daughter, the day after the Briton's title. Suddenly the car is good and he wins the title. He has only won six races and he won them all at the start of the season. I don't think Jenson Button deserves to be World Champion. »

To Tamara Ecclestone, to all his detractors, to those who condemned him before seeing him face Lewis Hamilton on the track, Jenson Button has just provided the best possible response. Four races, two victories and the championship lead before returning to Europe. A nice schedule and a perfect start to the season to launch the season with the aim of winning a second world title. It is with this objective that Jenson Button joined McLaren. Looking at the results of the first four races of the year, his choice was the right one.
