Jenson Button: “One of the best tracks”

His car sports the number 1, and Jenson Button intends to keep it. Author of a magnificent start to the season, the reigning world champion saw himself dethroned from his leading position during the last round. In the streets of the Principality of Monaco, he was in fact unable to defend his chances following an error that was, to say the least, original, the right radiator cover of his car not having been removed from the starting grid, causing overheating. It is therefore with a spirit of revenge that the pilot McLaren will enter the seventh round of the world championship.

“Istanbul Park is really a route that I like, says Button. Turn 8 is one of the best to negotiate at the wheel of a Formula 1 : the feeling you feel when you throw your car into the first curve is extraordinary, then you have to be very precise, both with the accelerator and in the trajectory. When you do it right, the feeling is fantastic, you can really go really fast through that curve. In fact, I think this circuit is one of the best modern tracks we visit, with a good diversity of turns, good elevation changes, and in terms of overtaking possibilities, it is certainly the best of the year. If you can follow a car until turn 10, then you have a real opportunity to benefit from its slipstream before entering turns 12 and 13 where overtaking generally takes place. We are receiving some developments for this race, proving that we continue to work hard on the development of the car. We should be particularly comfortable in Turkey.

Winner last year, Jenson Button does not have as dominant a car this season as in 2009, but his racing knowledge has worked wonders since the start of the season, and it is certain that we will have to count on the British this weekend.
