Jenson Button doesn't expect better in Malaysia, but?

Jenson Button would like to move on quickly, after the disappointment recorded by his team, McLaren, during the first Grand Prix of the season in Australia. Yes, but there you have it, only a short week separates the Melbourne event from the second meeting of the season in Malaysia. Too short a period of time which makes the 2009 world champion fear of reliving a similar weekend at Sepang.

“Australia was a really tough weekend for us, despite getting the most out of the car it's clear we're not where we wanted to be”, explains the Briton, aged 33. “There is always a lot of work to do but we all know that this team will not stop working until things get better. For this weekend, I don't think we can expect an improvement, but with Malaysia everything is so unpredictable, especially with the start being given late in the afternoon on Sunday, with the possibility of showers falling at the last moment. »

If he does not believe he has a better car this weekend, the 2009 world champion is hoping for a surprise in the weather to come out on top, a bit like he did Fernando Alonso the previous year, winner here aboard a Ferrari ill-born. “We saw last year, when Fernando won, that unpredictable weather can create a real lottery for everyone. This is something that can work in our favor,” thinks the McLaren driver. “I enjoy driving in changing conditions, and I would love the challenge of being competitive in a car that we all know cannot claim victory yet.”
