Jenson Button advocates team spirit

After scoring a resounding double at Istanbul Park, McLaren did it again two weeks later during the Canadian Grand Prix. But unlike Turkey where they had benefited from the clash between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, in Montreal, the MP4-25 did not need anyone to pick up their third 1-2 of this season, even allowing themselves to pocket the pole, the first this season which is not signed by a pilot Red Bull Racing.

In the championship, Lewis Hamilton is in the lead, with three small points ahead of Jenson Button. If within many teams relations between teammates would have been stormy, at McLaren, this is not the case. The Hamilton-Button “couple” still gets along wonderfully. And this is perhaps where we should look for the reasons for the current success of the Woking team.

“As a team, we collected maximum points after the last two races, says Button. We are on an excellent path. The team moves forward as one. We arrive in Valencia with the hope of being able to benefit from this spirit again. Even though it is a city circuit, it is somewhat different from a track like Monte-Carlo or Singapore. First of all, it's faster. There are slow corners with walls that don't forgive the slightest mistake, but there are also very fast sections and long straights. Finding the right set-up will therefore be very interesting. It?s not like you have to adjust your car only with a lot of support. There is a compromise to be found, which should suit us well.”

The 2009 world champion does not seem at all annoyed by his teammate's domination. But Jenson Button is a competitor, and will certainly do everything possible during this European Grand Prix to get ahead of his teammate and take control of the world championship.
