Jos Verstappen: “Max can only get better”

Praised after his Brazilian performance last weekend at Interlagos (which earned him a new nomination for FIA Action of the Year), Max Verstappen also suffered criticism from certain drivers during the season.

Offensive in his driving, tough when it comes to defending his position, the Dutchman notably forced the FIA to clarify defensive maneuvers on the sporting regulations paper when braking after the episode between the pilot Red Bull et Lewis Hamilton.

Toto Wolff also called Jos Verstappen to speak with his son, the boss of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, concerned about possible interference from the No. 12 RB33 in the world title fight between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

Little disturbed by the excitement around his son, the former Benetton pilot F1 further indicated in Brazil that he expected even more from his son. « I think he can only get better, explained the Dutchman in Brazil.

He is 19 years old, this is his second year in Formula 1 and if he can deliver a race like this we have many enjoyable years ahead of us. We ride for Red Bull and we want to have the best possible result for them. Max is here to run. »
