Si Nico Hulkenberg twice hoisted his R.S.17 into the top 10 of the two free practice sessions for the Australian Grand Prix this Friday in Melbourne, the start of the season Jolyon Palmer followed a completely opposite path.
Halted in his momentum by a cracked cardan bellows in EL1, the Briton was unable to make up for his running deficit later in the Australian day after making a mistake at the last corner of the Albert Park track.

“Unlike the EL1, this required more than a replacement part, Palmer declared after the session. I don't know exactly what happened and we will study the data carefully. I'm disappointed for my team because they have a lot of work to do.
Albert Park is a pretty nice circuit, even more so with this latest generation of car! I hope to get more running tomorrow, but with only ten laps today we will be on the defensive going into qualifying. »
