Mixed day for Racing Point in Spain

Like most teams this weekend in Spain, Racing Point F1 brought a number of new features to the RP19 entrusted to Sergio Pérez and Lance stroll. But the day did not go smoothly for Lawrence Stroll’s team.

First of all, it was his son Lance who made a mistake at turn 9 at the end of the first session, damaging several new parts developed for this Catalan round. The Canadian was, however, able to progress in EL2, and should once again count on a car provided with all its developments tomorrow.

“We missed a bit of running in the afternoon, but the team did a great job repairing the car and we still completed our program, details the former pilot Williams. Some parts will be delivered this evening and we should be in good shape for the rest of the weekend. »

The Canadian was also rather convinced by the performance gain of the package upgraded by the teams of Otmar Szafnauer, Team Principal of the team. “I think we made progress today, Stroll comments. The car behaves better than in previous races, that’s positive. »

An opinion, however, not necessarily shared by his teammate Sergio Pérez, who is more cautious when giving a first opinion on this development. “We have done many laps and collected data, but we are not yet satisfied with the performance, admits the Mexican.

So we need to understand where we can extract more potential tonight. It was a bit of an up and down today: sometimes we seemed more competitive, sometimes more behind.

So the work we do over the next few hours – looking at the data – will be really important to put us in a better position for qualification.

It's too early to make a final decision on the new parts we tried today and we need more time to really understand them. »

Pérez will have a final free practice session tomorrow morning to offer a new opinion, before the qualifications scheduled for the beginning of the afternoon in Catalonia, and which will be followed live with commentary on our website, via our live-text.
