Kevin Magnussen: “I’m proud of myself”

Daniel Ricciardo was not the only one to create a surprise by dominating his teammate in qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. For his first race in the discipline, Kevin Magnussen secured a fourth place on the Melbourne grid while his teammate Jenson Button, although efficient in the rain, failed just outside the top ten by being trapped by the yellow flags in Q2 following Kimi Räikkönen's accident .

" I am very happy ", comments the rookie reigning Formula champion Renault 3.5 Series. “The conditions were difficult, especially with the fact that I have never driven on this circuit in the rain. It was hard to find the right lines and braking zones, much harder than anything I've done! I don't think I could have done more today. I made a mistake going off the track on my last lap so maybe I could have been faster, but I'm still happy with my performance. There car is very efficient and the team has done a fantastic job of preparation. I am proud of myself but also of the team for all the work done during the winter. »

Kevin Magnussen must now concentrate on the race where he will have to materialize these performances with a good result to mark his arrival in the discipline with a white cross. “I'm going to enjoy tomorrow by doing my best. The walk to the podium will not be easy, especially if the weather remains dry. On the other hand, anything can happen if it starts raining again. »

The Australian Grand Prix will be contested from 7 a.m. French time and can be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr. Photos from the weekend can be found on this link.
