Sixth at the finish, Kevin Magnussen could congratulate itself on having won new points in 2014, and having vigorously defended its position in the final laps against the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso and his teammate Jenson Button. But the race management ultimately imposed a 20″ penalty on the Dane's race time, having forced Fernando Alonso to go out of bounds on the track in the final laps. Previously, the Spanish Team Ferrari had already expressed its annoyance towards the young resident of the Woking team, the latter having repeatedly crushed the double world champion, who was never able to find the opening on the McLaren MP4-29, even losing three places in the maneuver.
Jenson Button therefore recovers sixth place ahead of Fernando Alonso, Sergio Pérez (Force India), Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) and Nico Hulkenberg (Force India), big beneficiary of this penalty with the point for tenth place. Magnussen falls to 12th place.
