Key: “The real STR10 in the last session”

If Toro Rosso presented its STR10 at Jerez, this model should be significantly different from the one that will be fielded at the start of the season.

Key: “The real STR10 in the last session”

While the first winter tests begin tomorrow in Jerez (Spain), Toro Rosso has lifted the veil on its STR10 which will be led by Carlos Sainz Jr and Max Verstappen. The stability of the regulations compared to last year allowed the engineers to work on the bases created with the STR9 of the 2014 season, the first car of the Italian team powered by the Power Unit of Renault Sport F1.

If the STR10 seems similar to its older sister, technical director James Key assured Motorsport.com that the new features would soon be visible. “We reworked the car quite a bit. It's not really visible because we won't be riding with this model. The package has evolved a lot... The version presented is a conservative model which has last year's front and rear fins and a large air intake which is probably not necessary but which ensures cooling. »

Like all the other single-seaters presented so far, spectators should expect other changes on this STR10 before the start of the season scheduled for March 15 in Melbourne (Australia). But the development of this car could be slowed down by the lack of experience of Carlos Sainz Jr and Max Verstappen both of whom are new to the discipline. “The nose is the most beautiful part, but I expect it to change.”, said James Key. “ Our goal is for our new drivers to accumulate miles. We will not be looking for performances during the first two sessions. We will see the real STR10 in the last session. »

The two test sessions scheduled in Barcelona (Spain) will take place from February 19 to 22 and from February 26 to March 1.
